"Lead Sheets..."

"In order for learning to be effective, people must be active participants. They want their experiences to be exciting, thought-provoking and enriching. They want to walk away with enthusiasm and a desire to implement new skills." - Marva Collins

Many factors affect our motivation to work and to learn:

  • Interest in the subject matter
  • Perception of it usefulness
  • General desire to achieve
  • Self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Patience and persistence

We differ in our values, needs, desires and wants. Some of us are motivated by approval of others and some by overcoming challenges.

With these thoughts in mind, I ask you to consider the following question:

How do we inspire, challenge, stimulate and motivate students
toward effective learning?

Some kids are naturally enthusiastic about the learning process. They are like sponges from the moment they enter the classroom, and a teacher's dream. The teacher's focus becomes their ability to maintain or improve that initial level of interest in the classroom, which in turn will lead to heightened test scores and rank standing within their district, let alone the honor of watching each and every child walk across the stage for their diploma.

Right? Let's talk!!!!

Call to mind that teacher who made a mark on your life. What was it about them that transformed your learning experience? What about the teacher who said something that challenged your personal belief in yourself... how did that change you?

What do you believe about education? Can you articulate those beliefs in ways that move hearts and inspire change in others?

In addition:

  • Be prepared to walk in the steps of our children and experience learning through their eyes.
  • Be prepared to walk in the steps of a teacher and share something you know so that others may grow.
  • Be prepared to learn some things that you might not know about our education system and those who serve as the "champions of our children."

Life Skills 101
Things I've learned since Kindergarten… by Marti J. Miller

  • Character says it all. If you've got it, nothing else matters. If you don't, nothing else matters.
  • Integrity is the standard by which you are measured. People need to know that you do what you say you will do. Make it your practice to honor your word.
  • Dependability is the key to great teamwork. It leads to mutual trust between others, regardless of differences in styles, skills or interests.
  • Honesty is like oil in an engine. It keeps thing running effectively and allows life to occur in an open and free-flowing manner. Trust is built on the foundation of making honesty key in all that you do, even when it's not easy.
  • Reliability is the key to success. Be a person people can count on.
  • Live by the Golden Rule. It really does work.
  • Do your best. Give it everything you've got.
  • Rely on yourself, but reach out to others. Trust your instincts.
  • Don't be afraid to fail. Share your lessons so others can grow from your experience.
  • Take reasonable risks. Embrace change openly and directly. Look for the silver lining.
  • Always give your employer a fair day's work. Make yourself indispensable. Be good at what you do and offer to use your skills and talents liberally at every occasion.
  • Always give your family your best first. Lead where you live…everybody starts at home! Love here most and best.
  • Attitude is really the BIGGEST THING!
  • Be the Leader, not the follower. Step up and step out. Connect your head, heart and hands.
  • Be a good example.
  • Do the right thing. Do it again the next time and the next time. Just do it.

Lead where you live!

Marti!
